She found herself wandering in the darkest hours of the night. The only light that shone through the windows and the bits of broken brick was from the moon and the few stars that peeked through looming clouds. The voice rang out clearly through the crowded street. It was strong, echoing off buildings and tumbling into the ears of all those that gathered. It was late afternoon and many workers were changing shifts. The streets were crowded with men, women, and children, and they all seemed at least quietly interested in the speech. To live in captivity and to not know it cannot be matched. There is nothing as horrific as waking up in the morning, looking back on your life, and realizing that you have been bound under tyranny every day prior, only you were too blind to see it. DFW Writing Conference

So, I've always been a bit of a lurker-writer. Most of my friends know I write, some have read it, and I post to DA. Every great once-and-a-while I might even submit an entry to a contest, but that's fairly rare. It's just the way that I operate. Tomorrow is a major step for me and I'm about to have a conniption tonight in preparation for it. I'm attending the DFW writing conference. I've never attended one of these before, and while several of my close friends are also authors, I really don't tend to attend any events that put me around a great number of other writers.
